Karnataka: The Jamia Masjid in Srirangapatna, Karnataka's Mandya district, is once again in the public limelight, following the Gyanvapi...
The ruling BJP is attempting to gain traction in this rich district, which is having a significant impact on state politics. The party hopes to win electoral success in that region, which is now a JD(S) stronghold, by addressing the concerns raised by Hindu activists. Srirangapatna, in the Mandya district, is considered the Vokkaliga community's heartland.
The mosque's management has made numerous requests to the district authorities to protect the mosque from Hindu extremists. On Thursday, Rishi Kumar Swamy of Kali Math asserted that the Srirangapatna Jamia Masjid was erected on the site of a Hanuman temple. The temple was also dismantled in order to make place for the mosque.
He stated that symbols of the former Hoysala empire can be found inside the mosque. During the forthcoming Hanuman Jayanti, Swamy said a campaign would be launched. He further claimed that the temple was constructed prior to the Mysore kings' reign.
During Tipu Sultan's reign, the Hanuman temple was turned into a mosque, according to the Swami. The mosque was the earliest Hindu temple, according to strong evidence. He further reported that in 1784, the temple was destroyed. Swamy was detained in January for advocating for the mosque to be demolished. He had requested that the mosque be closed until it was determined whether it was formerly a temple. He is currently free on bail.
